Ash Wednesday is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation

9 Mar

It’s Ash Wednesday and some of my officemates were worried that they were not able to hear Mass today.

For those who were not able to hear Mass, fret not. According to our Parish priest, Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation and having one’s forehead signed with ashes is not required, too. HOWEVER, we, Catholics are strongly encouraged to attend Mass on Ash Wednesday and have our foreheads signed with ashes since it’s fitting to mark the start of the Lenten Season. Also, I want to remind the Catholics that today is a day of fasting and abstinence.

I am so proud of my boyfriend. He may not have been able to fast because he has ulcer, but he skipped attending a party to hear Mass and to have his forehead signed with ash. He also abstained from eating meat and did not give in to his cravings (ice cream, chips, etc.). He also reminded his officemates to eat fish during their lunch break. I’m sssooo happy!🙂
